About Cartier

The blue cabochon in the crown has been a signature element for Cartier since the beginning of the 1930s when the Pasha of Marrakesh ordered a watch from Louis Cartier that he wished to take swimming with him. The cabochon in the crown sealed it, making it more water-resistant, and not only was the Pasha line born, but also an element that makes a timepiece by Cartier recognizable even at a distance.

Cartier is now introducing a new classic for men and women in the same vein as the Tank, the most outstanding feature of which is the placement of the crown and its blue cabochon within a crown protection that looks distinctly like a bubble - or a small balloon. This is perfect, for it exactly coincides with the absolute roundness of the Ballon Bleu's case, while simultaneously breaking up the - well - roundness of the whole. Available in three sizes, this new Cartier classic can be easily and beautifully worn by men or women.

The perfection of shapes this famed company has conceived combined with movements crafted in the art of haute horlogerie have always been the secret to Cartier's success, beginning with the first models created in the Paris workshops in 1853. The watches now found in the brand's Collection Privee Cartier Paris are crafted in the most precious materials and outfitted with mechanical manufacture movements made according to traditional watchmaker practices.

Within Cartier's large product palette, they make up their own little colorful collection, one that most especially aims for aficionados of literally beautiful examples of watchmaking. Cartier produces and assembles its own watches in its factory in Switzerland's La Chaux-de-Fonds. However, as in the past, the company continues to enjoy taking the opportunity to combine its own know-how with the expertise of other great manufactures in order to develop and realize unusual technical ideas. These partners count among the most reputable Swiss manufactures and specialist workshops: Piaget, Renaud et Papi, Dubois Depraz, Girard-Perregaux, Frederic Piguet, and of course Jaeger-LeCoultre.

Jaeger-LeCoultre is today - once again - Cartier's main partner with regard to the Collection Privee Cartier Paris. Already in 1903 Cartier represented Jaeger-LeCoultre's most important customer, and in 1907 the Cartier brothers signed a contract with Edmond Jaeger that guaranteed them exclusive production of chronometers, watches with flat movements, and future inventions as long as they continued to order a certain number of pieces. The relationship between Jaeger-LeCoultre and Cartier was to last more than three-quarters of a century. From 1927 until 1979, Jaeger-LeCoultre supplied more than thirty-two different calibers to the European Watch Company, which was founded in 1919 by Cartier in New York. With the advent of quartz technology, the relationship between the two companies weakened toward the end of the 1970s.

However, for many years now a new chapter in the story of this long and fruitful cooperation between Cartier and Jaeger-LeCoultre has been taking place - much to the joy of demanding connoisseurs who expect very special pieces from the label Collection Privee Cartier Paris.
