The crown is used to adjust the hours, minutes and date. Never turn the crown while wearing the watch as this could twist the winding stem and damage the movement. Always take the watch off first.

If an automatic watch is left untouched it will stop. Depending on the watch brand the average power reserve is 40 hours. To get the watch running properly, the watch needs to be wound. Winding the crown in the clockwise motion is what winds it, it should be wound 15 to 25 times to get the mainspring charged to run the watch.
