  • Bell & Ross BR Vintage 126 Heritage Preview

    2010 March 30

As mentioned on the Matt Baily Facebook fan page, we were "floored" at Baselworld 2010 by the Bell & Ross' novelties. We were not able to get footage or pictures of these spectacular models, but fortunately Bell & Ross are quite active online and several videos regarding their new models have been posted on their website. The major news is the introduction of an entire new collection of beautiful watches dubbed the BR Vintage collection. This year's ambassadors of this collection are the BR V123 and V126 Heritage.

  • Circle of Life

    2008 January 23

The circle is one of nature's most pleasing shapes. Take this perfectly balanced form, re-create it in a precious metal, adorn it with beautifully gleaming diamonds, and you got yourself the classic Circle of Life pendant.

  • Guest Post: Tested Beyond Endurance - Bremont MBII

    2013 September 25

Today on the Baily Blog we are welcoming the first contribution from guest columnist Dr. Jeff Buchanan-Dorrance. Always on the prowl for interesting and significant timepieces, Matt Baily brought in a Bremont ALT-1C two-register chronograph early in the Summer and it was suggested to me as an unusual alternative to the "usual (Swiss) suspects". They were considering taking the brand on so--liking what I'd heard about Bremont--I had them order a couple of watches for me. "Tested Beyond Endurance" is the working motto for Bremont, an English watch company with its' roots in aviation. The company was formed by two brothers who shared a passion with their father for timepieces and piloting vintage planes. Their father died in a plane crash and both brothers have also been seriously injured pursuing their aviation passions.

  • New Rado Sintra XXL Skeleton Chronometer

    2011 December 19

The latest addition to the Matt Baily lineup is Rado, a favourite brand among fashion conscious trend-setters who want avant-garde design and high-tech materials. A pioneer in the field of composites and ceramic watch cases, Rado has made a name for itself by innovating in a traditionally conservative Swiss watch market. One of the centrepieces of the Rado collection is the Sintra, a tonneau-shaped model available in a variety of ceramic colours with an integrated bracelet. And the flagship of the Sintra collection is the new XXL Skeleton Chronometer, which showcases a beautifully skeletonized automatic movement.

  • Bell & Ross BR 03-94 Phantom Chronograph

    2010 May 17

Having seen it at Baselworld 2010 and not having the time to go back to the Bell & Ross booth to take a picture of it, I have been awaiting this moment impatiently. Finally Bell & Ross has released official images of this awesome little number, the BR 03-94 Phantom.

  • What About Pre-Owned Watches?

    2008 February 08

It's not possible to trade-in a suit. Cars gain mileage, which continuously depreciates their resale value. Electronic devices become obsolete. A watch is one of the very few luxury items that will work just as well, and can be worth just as much when it is pre-owned as when it is new.

  • New Alpina Startimers

    2011 August 01

Since we introduced Alpina to the Montreal market some three years ago, we here at Matt Baily’s have seen the brand evolve from a small manufacturer of quirky sport watches into a well-respected marque producing very desirable watches for very reasonable prices. This year Alpina has introduced a slew of new entry-level models that are very reasonably priced while still showing a marked improvement in quality. Chief among these new models is the Startimer Pilot series, which was announced earlier this year alongside the Sailing collection. After several months of anticipation, we finally have the Startimer collection in store, and they do not disappoint.

  • Interview with Matthias Breschan - President of Hamilton International

    2010 April 06

It is undeniable that the leader in mechanical watchmaking is Switzerland. Very few other countries - namely Germany and Japan - are even on the map as manufacturers of quality movements. It is therefore the obvious choice for the Swatch Group to set up the Hamilton manufacturing operations in Switzerland. This question did bring to mind a blog entry I posted on the Baily Blog that discusses Canadian watchmaking, where I mention that it would be great to see manufactures establish themselves in Canada.

  • Guest Post: Tested Beyond Endurance Part II - Bremont Supermarine S2000

    2013 September 30

The second installment of Jeff Buchanan-Dorrance's guest column for the Baily Blog, this week Jeff profiles the Bremont Supermarine S2000. Last week, I shared with you the extraordinary capabilities of the Bremont MB (Martin-Baker) series of timepieces and their committment to building aviation-themed watches capable beyond any challenges you could ever hope to throw at them. Bremont has also made significant inroads into the military aviator community, issuing squadron- and mission-specific timepieces prized by their owners and the military units they honour, as well as collectors of interesting and durable watches. Bremont is winning fans worldwide with their quality, innovation, and friendly (gasp) and responsive (double gasp) customer service. (Part of me wants to write, "an industry first!") Clearly, they want us all to have an enjoyable experience.

  • Bell & Ross BR01 Red Radar

    2012 March 30

Matt Baily was the first Bell & Ross retailer in Canada, and we have witnessed the evolution of the company from a quirky producer of professional watches into a powerhouse brand driven by distinctive industrial designs. Their BR01 and BR03 Instrument series are still the benchmark for modern military-industrial watches. To keep the design fresh, Bell & Ross has introduced numerous colour variations and complications over the years; the Red Radar limited edition in particular has garnered a lot of press in the watch media as a seriously cool design that takes the Instrument to another level.

  • Bell Ross BR01 Tourbillon is finally in Canada

    2008 May 07

After arriving under armed guard, the Bell & Ross BR01 Tourbillon is finally here, we have waited patiently since ordering it at the Basel fair a year ago. We carefully opened the beautiful Carbon Fiber box to expose the grey foam rubber that cradled this magnificent Instrument.

  • Guest Post: Hamilton Khaki Navy Sub - Boy Wonder's Own Diver

    2013 October 30

![H78615335 thumbnail](http://dev.mattbaily.ca/site-media/img/item/thumbnail/H78615335_thumb.jpg "Hamilton H78615335 Available at Matt Baily") "Holy dive watches Batman!" After discussing the ultra-competent, ultra-deep diving Bremont Supermarine S2000 last week, I want to dial back those Batman job parameters and look at what Robin does for a living. When taken out of Batman's shadow, you have to admit that The Boy Wonder is a pretty competent operator. He is capable of covering the Dark Knight's flanks in an ambush, answering the phones, and injecting a little levity into the working life of an otherwise dour blunt-instrument-of-Justice. Having a diver for beating around is a given in the male watch repertoire. Even if you don't need its capabilities, a diver makes a statement about the ruggedness and adventurousness of the wearer. For many, it's the only type of watch worth considering for daily wear. All deep divers are not created equal but, for our purposes, let's just call anything rated 500 metres or more, "Batman". Apart from extreme pursuits or sheer love of engineering prowess, we don't need Batman. Enter Robin.

  • U-Boat Set to Ship New Models

    2009 July 21

A Closeup of the Classico Chronograph and the Classico 1001 At the last Baselworld exposition in Switzerland, U-Boat released several new models. Now that two of these models are on the verge of being delivered, it is a good time for me to introduce them to you.

  • Unforgettable Win for the Montreal Canadiens

    2008 February 20

The Montreal Canadiens Stage a Spectacular Record-Braking Comeback. Last night was by far the most exciting night of hockey that I've witnessed since Jacques Demers called Marty McSorley on an illegal stick in 1993. What I saw was our Montreal Canadiens staging a miracle comeback from a five goal deficit, at the Bell Centre, against the New York Rangers. Then, as if that was not enough, Captain Koivu beat Lundqvist in the shootout to win the game.

  • New Bell & Ross BR 01 All Carbon Fiber Watches

    2009 October 17

Featured in a photo within the latest Swiss edition of Revolution magazine, is the brand new Bell & Ross BR-01 94 all-carbon-fiber watch. These new models have slipped through the cracks since they were spotted at last year's Baselworld fair. Now new pictures are available and the new all carbon fiber BR 01s are official.

  • A Review of SIHH 2010 - Several Watches That Stood Out

    2010 January 28

Although none of the companies that Matt Baily Watches carries are represented at the private Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie in Geneva, our passion for fine watches runs deep. Furthermore, chances are good that some of the models I will be mentioning in this post will eventually end up in our outstanding collection of certified pre-owned watches, which includes desirable pieces by Panerai, Audemars Piguet, Cartier, and more.
